saw this blog article and immediately thought about this class. The article relates how the original website for the Movie ”space jam” (circa 1996) is still up and is a dazzling look into the past of web design. It helped me put my own efforts into perspective.

Just came across this interesting article on Slate.com:
http://www.slate.com/id/2285354/
about Google’s new Public Data Explorer tool, which the author sees as a possible step towards a universal format for numerical data on the web. Seems very relevant to the Semantic Web and discussions of interoperability, and possibly for any academic libraries involved with scientific scholarly publishing. -

Note: Please remember this is an ongoing part of the class.
Module Discussions
Over the course of the term, you will write 5 reflections on selected module topics. Posts should be a minimum of 200 words. Well-executed posts will include links, your own thoughtful reflection and commentary about the readings, and whatever else you come across while exploring the topic. Note: Label your posting as Posting #1, Posting #2, etc.Note: Part of the goal of the Module Discussions is to provide an ongoing discourse among the course participants. You should stay engaged in the discussions throughout the semester. Students who wait until the end of the term to make the majority of their postings and responses will lose points due to lack of engagement.
Students should read the module resources, compose and post brief personal reflections and also read/respond to other students. This creates our class conversation online. Grading will be done for overall engagement and quality of reflections as a whole. (15 points)

Hi everyone! Since we’re reading about cascading style sheets (CSS) this week, I thought I’d share http://www.csszengarden.com/. It really shows what can be accomplished with CSS-based design! Each page’s content is the same, but it uses a different external style sheet. The CSS files are readily available for viewing as well.
- Anna Kim · 1 year, 3 months ago
The examples on the page are gorgeous!
- Phyllis Kastle · 1 year, 3 months ago
this is great! it really helps to see the code behind the visual effect that you want. a little more sophisticated look that what we’ve had in the text so far. cool stuff.

Hey all – the exercises start to ramp up this week. You’ll be creating external stylesheets. Make sure you allow enough time to the exercise. It sets the stage for the next set of exercises focused on styling and formatting.

Hi all! Just ran across this article and thought others might find it interesting given what we’ve read so far about the rapid expansion of the Internet: http://www.cnn.com/2011/TECH/web/02/03/internet.addresses.gone/index.html
